The Council for Economic Education, a national nonprofit on a mission to equip K-12 students with the tools and knowledge of personal finance and economics, hosts the annual National Personal Finance Challenge (NPFC), a high school competition where teens from across the country put their personal finance knowledge to the test, answering complex questions about saving, investing, stocks, bonds, retirement planning, managing credit, and more.
DVMC was brought on to help CEE amplify the NPFC and its mission to equip the next generation with life-changing personal financial knowledge.

The Council for Economic Education (CEE) is one of the country’s leading advocates for financial literacy in K-12 students. They are dedicated to teaching students the skills to manage their personal finances, ensuring they can make better decisions to support themselves, their families, and their communities.
CEE provides an abundance of free resources and innovative educator training, strategically targeting the geographic locations most in need to ensure the most beneficial financial literacy training. Over two million students and 50 thousand teachers have benefited from CEE’s resources nationally. Using its broad bipartisan support, they have helped ensure widespread policy success, working to enact legislation in 23 states to require students to take financial education courses prior to graduation.

OUR WORK
During DVMC’s five-month scope of work, we worked to promote CEE’s National Personal Finance Challenge (NPFC).
Leading up to the national finals, DVMC focused on the local level by amplifying select state-level competitions. DVMC successfully secured local coverage for the state finals in Massachusetts and New York. In Massachusetts, for instance, the local NBC outlet did a segment with the state champions as they prepared for nationals: Lexington High School finance team prepares for nationals.
By crafting a strategy that focused on the content of the competition, we secured high-profile national coverage in the Wall Street Journal. The WSJ ran two interactive financial literacy quizzes: Do You Know as Much About Personal Finance as These Savvy High-Schoolers? and Test Yourself Against These Teen Personal-Finance Whizzes, Round 2 using the questions from the final quiz bowl round. The success of the first story led to the outlet running the second piece.
The competition was also featured on an episode of the WSJ’s podcast Your Money Briefing Do You Know More About Personal Finance Than This High Schooler? where the hosts interview a member of the winning team.
After seeing the WSJ article, FOX & Friends invited members of the winning team on to quiz the hosts and USA Today ran a similar quiz: Can you pass this quiz on Social Security, savings and debt? Most Americans could not.
Our work garnered a total online readership of 657 million, securing 16 original pieces of coverage, garnering television and radio audiences of over 3 million, and attaining a total ad value equivalency of over $2.3 million.
